When Did I Join the Civic, and Why?

In 2012, at the encouragement of a neighbor. Living in Germantown in the late 1970s, I was actively involved in the local civic association and I saw how it could bring a community together. I wanted to do the same in Narberth

• Married 49 years to The Bride (Cindy), 3 sons, 3 granddaughters and 2 grandsons
• Practicing trial lawyer
• Bluegrass/folk mandolin and guitar player
• Big-time soccer fan (and coach of little kids)

When Did I Join the Civic, and Why?

In 2019, at the encouragement of a former work colleague. I wanted to share my enthusiasm for the Borough and the community, and to help the Civic spread its messages

It feels like a European village, it has everything I need right here. It’s walkable, friendly, and an easy commute to the city

When Did I Join the Civic, and Why?

I joined in about 2011. I wanted to meet and collaborate with people who were working on environmental issues. I started out helping with the Earth Day fair andNarbEarth Day, and later with other community events. I wanted those things to continue and grow so I eventually became a board member

• I’m happily retired and enjoy painting, dancing, the great outdoors and being sociable
• I have two grown children and two adorable grandsons

I settled here in 2014, after years of moving around the country with my husband's job

This deep-rooted, close-knit community is filled with pride, and it reminds me of my hometown, with lots of familiar faces and bright smiles every time I head out the door

When Did I Join the Civic, and Why?

I started attending monthly meetings in 2015, and joined the board in 2016, serving as President from 2017-2020. I loved the warm welcome, energy and enthusiasm the NCA Board and other active members were pouring into bringing neighbors together and serving the community

I’ve been able to put down roots in a wonderful community, a place where I know I’m likely to encounter friends and acquaintances whenever I walk through town

When Did I Join the Civic, and Why?

Almost 30 years ago. I’ve been on the board for much of that time, including three years as President. I’m proud of the NCA’s role in promoting open communication between borough government and engaged citizens. I especially love NarbEarth Day, our premier environmental event, which has grown in scope and seen more and more volunteer involvement over the years

About Me

• In 1995 I opened The Yoga Garden, Narberth’s first yoga studio. These days I teach gentle yoga via Zoom from my living room.
• I love gardening, cooking, improv, and reading.
• I’m blessed to have my adult daughter, Kara, with me part time, and my cat, Amber, full time

Why Narberth?

My husband John and I fell in love with Narberth -- and our house when our realtor showed it to us. And, my father-in-law had played baseball here in the 1940s and ‘50s

Why Did I Join the Civic?

A work colleague who was on the Board asked me to join, which I did, along with John

About Me

• My husband of 50 years is an alumnus of Harriton High School, where he taught until he retired
• My first job in Philadelphia was as a Curatorial Assistant at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
• I obtained a Masters in Library Science and became the Librarian and Director of the Narberth Community Library, where I worked for 23 years until I retired in 2008
• I like to travel, read, and knit
• I lead book groups at the library and at New Horizons Senior Center

“Why not Narberth?” The biggest reason I chose Narberth was walkability, but I also love the small town vibe, where neighbors and kids all know and get along and care about one another. I love the downtown the great sand park

In 2019 at the encouragement of a neighbor. I fell in love with the Board’s mission and the wonderful people who are a joy to work with

About Me

• I am an artist (Indispensable Artist) and stay at home mom (most of the time) with two wonderful kids (a girl and a boy) and an amazing husband
• We live in a small starter home in Narberth.
• I love making art with my kids and for a living
• I enjoy long walks, reading, cooking for family and friends, and (until Covid) travel

We became Narberth homeowners twenty-one years ago, after fourteen years renting in Lower Merion and Delaware County

Why Narberth?

We house hunted in places with proximity to a walkable town center: Ardmore, Wayne, Phoenixville, etc. We came here for sidewalks!

When Did I Join Civic, and Why?

I was previously on the Civic board from 2009-2013, and now again since 2017. I joined the board as part of Maureen O’Leary’s plan to reinvigorate the NCA as a source of information and community reporting, particularly with respect to school district issues. I rejoined in 2017 primarily to become involved with the Civic’s live-streaming initiatives to make Borough council and committee meetings accessible to the public
